“It’s important to note that the Building Code of Australia and OHS legislation both have non-slip requirements written as performance statements. As such, all commercial floors are required to be slip resistant.

Specifying slip resistant floor surfaces is a process of optimisation; one that requires a fine balance between the minimum amount of traction for specific locations and usage scenarios, and the need for efficient maintenance practices.

Standards Australia Handbook 197 provides an essential starting point for developing slip resistance specifications. It raises some important design considerations and should help architects choose safe flooring that is most suitable for their next building project”.
